Memphis Business Journal seeks reporter

Memphis Business Journal is looking for an ambitious and digitally savvy reporter who will thrive in our breaking news culture.

That person will join a feisty, progressive, award-winning staff that’s telling important stories, experimenting with new media and going all out to cover Memphis’ burgeoning economy. This person will cover beats that are at the center of Memphis’ leading industries and most significant business trends. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute multiple daily stories on their beats
  • Contribute long-form pieces for the weekly edition
  • Own their audience, by every measure
  • Marry traditional reporting techniques with digital and social media newsgathering and publishing
  • Work collaboratively with peers in design, research and technology.
  • Regularly participate in and attend Business Journal sponsored events.
  • Take on any other assignment made by manager(s).
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all colleagues and professionally with sources.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
