Journo Jobs

Martin Publishing Company seeks a journalist/editor

This job posting is for a very specific person – one who understands what community journalism is and the important role community newspapers play in their counties.

We are looking for a Journalist/Editor to take the lead keeping tabs on city, county, schools or whatever comes our way. (Wind farms this week – who knows what next week!)

Our readers love features, too, and there is an unending source of stories here to tell.

There are also opportunities for solid investigative and enterprise reporting, and we are proud of the many awards we have won for our work on these.

Our newspapers are located in Central Illinois where there are abundant opportunities for those who enjoy outdoor recreation, whether it is hiking and kayaking or hunting and fishing.  The urban amenities of Peoria and Springfield are less than an hour away.

The ideal person for this position will be curious and interested in others and their stories. They are also good listeners and fact checkers. . The job is a combination of hard news and features, with some photography required.

There is room for advancement for a capable writer who would like more leadership responsibilities.

To apply, please send five writing samples, a resume, references and a cover letter to Wendy at democratnewspaper@gmail.com, subject line Jdotcom.
