MarketWatch.com seeks companies reporter

MarketWatch.com seeks a reporter to join its companies team, covering all aspects of the corporate story from fundamentals such as earnings and share-price moves to strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, spinoffs and board changes.

The beat will cover a wide range of sectors and story types, from spot news to features. The successful candidate must be flexible and disciplined and willing to pitch in wherever needed throughout the day.

He/she must have an ability to build sources across a wide range of industries and have excellent communication skills.

Based in New York, the ideal candidate will be able to generate ideas and spot trends, and find unique story angles for our base of retail and professional investors.

Some knowledge of business news and understanding of financial markets necessary.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
