MarketWatch seeks a reporter who can build out a new beat covering two sectors: the burgeoning cannabis industry and banking.
This reporter will dig into the impact of cannabis reforms like the Safe banking act, which is expected to be a major step for the growth and investment in the industry by allowing banks in states that have legalized cannabis to work with companies without fear of enforcement action. Such changes make this a pivotal moment for the beat, as these reforms could open the capital markets to cannabis companies, which will bring a flood of money and more M&A activity.
At MarketWatch our mission is to help readers understand what the news of the moment means for their money. Living up to that promise means explaining often challenging topics in a way that is relatable and useful to a general audience of investors, consumers, and humans without ever dumbing things down. We also strive to be engaging, fast, and fun.
Requirements: A minimum of three years’ reporting experience, a passion for covering companies and industries, digging into corporate filings to tease out the nuggets of great stories, and a knack for digging up scoops of fact and insight.
The position will ideally be based in New York, but given that geography has been rendered somewhat irrelevant we will consider candidates from elsewhere if you can make a case that your location can be an asset to our coverage.
