“Marketplace” seeks associate producer

Queen of GIFs? King of Memes? Deft with deploying emojis, Snapchat narratives, and Tumblr notes to connect with audiences and make great stories? Come join Marketplace’s growing digital team as an Associate Producer I, Shareable Media.

The current media landscape requires publishers to be nimble and flexible, producing distributed media that’s designed for evolving consumption habits. Visual storytelling is key to how Marketplace delivers news to our audiences on multiple platforms beyond radio. Video, photo illustrations, charts and graphs are just a few of the visual tools we employ to break down complex concepts for our readers.

The Associate Producer I, Shareable Media joins Marketplace in an exciting capacity: defining a visual language for our coverage and creating stories that audiences want to share widely.

You’ll work closely with Marketplace editors and reporters and our shows to add visual elements to their audio and text coverage, and also create original stories for digital-first distribution. With an eye on our editorial calendar as well as trending news, you’ll make fast decisions about which stories to advance, and how to best to represent them visually.

You’ll be adept at quickly executing on concepts, and devising a social sharing strategy for maximum impact. You’ll work on treatments for lighter news, like our “Let’s Do the Numbers” GIFs, and also make content that directs more attention to serious reporting like our ongoing coverage of wealth and poverty, infrastructure, health care, and elections.

This position has an application deadline of March 21, 2016 (10pm PST).

Position Responsibility:

  • Produce a daily stream of smart, engaging visual media content designed for distribution across the social web.
  • Institute shop-wide protocols for developing/distributing content on social platforms.
  • Consistently deliver stories with Marketplace’s writing style.
  • Improve audience engagement metrics on Marketplace content.
  • Support and expand the Marketplace presence on social media.
  • Manage projects involving multiple stakeholders within editorial team.
  • Produce or assist in producing special programming, as assigned.
  • Ideation for additional digital initiatives to support, market and grow awareness of Marketplace as needed.
  • Collaborate with our Producer, Reporter, and Editorial teams, and various other stakeholders to guarantee project success.
  • Assist in the documentation and communication of processes, calendars and other key tools to support content production.
  • Support department goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of similar digital media work experience.
