Job Qualifications: This editor will shape a section that is expanding under The Times’ new, local ownership, and a staff that has distinguished itself with coverage of the immigrant workforce, tech startups and the housing shortage while pursuing stories about Hollywood’s MeToo scandals, Tesla, Disney and other subjects meriting in-depth coverage. Candidates should be numerate and have the ability to direct breaking news, enterprise and investigations. Candidates should also have several years’ experience managing a team of reporters or a department. They should have shown the ability to produce stories that are simultaneously must reading for insiders who control important business entities and a larger population of readers affected by the actions of those insiders. They should demonstrate creativity in storytelling across multiple platforms, including print, digital and video, and they should understand the importance of telling stories through people. Familiarity with the diverse California economy and culture is a plus as is an understanding of those national and international events that affect or audiences.
