Long Beach Business Journal seeks reporter

The Long Beach Business Journal, a biweekly tabloid founded in 1987, has an immediate opening for a staff writer who has excellent in-person and phone interview skills and who can prepare well-written hard news and feature stories.

A car is necessary. We focus on real estate, international trade, health care, aviation/aerospace, hospitality/tourism, financial services, city hall actions and much more. Small staff with lots of work.

Knowledge of Long Beach area is a plus. Regular work hours: M-F, 8:30-5:30. No weekend work and very little after-hours work.

Base salary: $36,000. Benefits include 2 weeks paid vacation and 9 paid holidays. Employer pays up to $300 monthly for group medical (for employee).

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
