Long Beach Business Journal seeks a staff writer

The Long Beach Business Journal is seeking an experienced journalist to join our team. Founded in March 1987, the Business Journal is a biweekly (every other Tuesday) newsmagazine covering the greater Long Beach area.

We service an area that includes the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the Long Beach Airport, three major hospitals, a growing creative sector and an expanding hospitality/tourism industry. In addition to our extensive industry coverage, we also focus on city hall and community issues.

We are looking for an ethical journalist who meets deadlines, pitches stories and works well in an office environment. Beats will include energy, environment, aviation and aerospace, technology and others as needed. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience writing for a newspaper, newsmagazine or online publication. This is not a telecommuting position.

Preferred but not required:

  • Investigative journalism experience
  • Familiarity with the City of Long Beach and its business sectors
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Proficiency in social media platforms
  • Some photography experience

Our office hours are M-F, 8:30-5:30. We provide company paid group medical, dental, two weeks vacation, nine paid holidays and more. Please e-mail: editor@lbbj.com. Please write “Writer Position” in the subject line and include your resume along with three recent writing clips.
