LinkedIn seeks a finance editor

Job Description

This role will be based in San Francisco or New York.

LinkedIn is looking for a journalist with a passion for finance news to oversee content on the topic. The beat will involve a mix of financial services industry news, developments in markets and the economy, trends in fintech and helping cultivate the most prominent and knowledgeable voices on these topics. The right candidate is immersed in the beat, preferably has been actively covering it, has strong industry relationships and is entrepreneurial about ways to engage an audience around finance news and views.

This finance-focused editor will join a global team of journalists who help create, curate, cultivate and circulate the professional content that flows through LinkedIn. You will concentrate on sourcing, showcasing and writing about the industry insights that directly add value to finance professionals and those whose work intersects with money. You will have powerful tools at your disposal to achieve this: Your articles will reach the largest collection of professionals ever assembled, your curated topics will reach highly targeted audiences, and the voices you cultivate — from chief investment officers and leading economists to financial advisors and personal finance experts — will find and build audiences eager for their insights.

You will also develop skills to build a career that lasts: how to analyze data; how to leverage a variety of multimedia tools and formats; how to measure and promote your work; and how to achieve excellence on a cross-functional team.

You should have experience editing and/or reporting on finance news and trends, strong news judgment, deep existing relationships in the industry, excellent (and fast) writing skills and, most importantly, an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate is as interested in shaping a product as shaping a story.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Write 2+ articles/week offering insight into what’s happening in the finance industry, the markets and the economy, while consistently sharing curated updates and news with this audience;
  • Engage your rolodex daily to generate high-quality conversations about industry trends and items in the news on the platform;
  • Forge relationships with top voices in finance to connect their insight-rich content with the right audiences;
  • Help oversee the daily news and notification experience on LinkedIn;
  • Generate analysis on what’s working and what’s not, and devise and design ways to increase engagement through content.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • S. degree or 5+ years of experience writing and editing business news in a newsroom setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing content for or about the financial services and fintech industries.
  • Experience with original and curated news.
  • Large social media presence.
  • Experience producing multimedia content.
  • Comfortable and experienced working with data.
  • Deep relationships in the finance community.
  • Ability to shape products and stories.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • A strategic and growth-oriented mindset.

Apply

If you meet the qualifications and are interested in applying for this role, email the following to the hiring manager, Sr. Managing Editor Devin Banerjee, at dbanerjee@linkedin.com:

  • Your LinkedIn profile or resume
  • 3-5 clips that demonstrate the breadth and depth of your coverage of business or finance news
  • Three finance trends or news developments that you believe finance professionals need to understand, and why (no more than 100 words each)
