Las Vegas Sun seeks gaming reporter

The Las Vegas Sun is seeking a reporter to cover one of the most dynamic and compelling beats in our market — the gaming industry.

This is a business reporting position that also focuses on other topics related to Las Vegas’ resort economy, including capital projects, labor/management issues and transportation in the tourist corridor.

We’re seeking an experienced, energetic and inquisitive reporter for the job, which comes with an opportunity to quickly become one of the most widely followed journalists in Las Vegas. Our audience has a voracious appetite for stories about Southern Nevada’s casino and hospitality industry, the predominant driver of the region’s economy.

This is a vibrant time to become a reporter in Las Vegas. Tourism is booming, unemployment has shrunk and recent construction activity includes a new 20,000-seat arena that will be home to an NHL team.

The successful candidate will have at least four years’ experience covering business or news in a midsized city or large metro, a strong grasp of social media and the ability to produce content ranging from quick rewrites of news releases to long-form narratives and complex infographics. In addition, the candidate will have excellent writing skills, a competitive nature, a collaborative personality and the ability to self-direct.

The Sun is a product of Greenspun Media Group, a family-owned organization whose titles also include: The Sunday, an innovative, magazine-style weekly news digest; VEGAS INC, a business-to-business weekly; Las Vegas Weekly, the city’s leading arts/entertainment/culture publication; and a family of leading websites.

We’re building a media company for the next 50 years, and we take pride in the quality and progressive nature of our work. The Las Vegas Sun won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2009, and GMG’s sites have won EPPY Awards for five consecutive years including a 2014 EPPY for Best Entertainment Website for lasvegasweekly.com.

Interested in applying? If so, please send your resume to jobs @gmgvegas.com with ‘Gaming Reporter’ in the subject line.
