Las Vegas Review-Journal seeks business reporter

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is seeking an experienced reporter to cover retail and occasionally other business topics in Southern Nevada. We are looking for a strong storyteller who can write with context and clarity, report with depth and has a passion for news.

The retail reporter will write forward-thinking, consumer-focused stories related to the retail industry. Stories will include breaking news and in-depth enterprise stories that analyze new technology, initiatives and trends impacting retailers and consumers. Stories will be encouraged to include multimedia elements, including video.

The ideal candidate has covered retail previously and understands the importance of balance, fairness, thoroughness and accuracy; has the ability to move enterprise forward while producing quick hits for the web on local retail developments; can quickly build a social media following; is comfortable shooting video, participating in podcasts and appearing on camera for studio video interviews.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or related field.
  • At least two years of business reporting experience at a midsize or metro daily newspaper or news website. Previous experience covering retail is a plus.
  • Ability to work well under deadline pressure, develop sources and take complicated issues and make them engaging to readers.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze business concepts, industry trends and major news stories.
  • Ability to quickly build a strong social media following.
  • Ability to shoot video to accompany stories.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter outlining why you are interested in covering retail; a resume; 1-3 Las Vegas-oriented retail story ideas and samples of your best work to Deputy Managing Editor Pete Johnson at pjohnson@reviewjournal.com and Business Editor Nicole Raz at nraz@reviewjournal.com.
