Las Vegas Review JournalThe Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada’s top print and online news organization, is looking for a pair of smart, aggressive, experienced reporters to cover the tourism/gaming and real estate/economy beats for its Business section.

Tourism and gaming are the dominant industries in Las Vegas, and the Review-Journal needs someone with big shoulders to cover the action. We are looking for a reporter who can quickly turn around a breaking news story for online, then beef it up with the necessary context and perspective for print.

Real estate/economy is an equally critical beat. The Review-Journal is looking for someone who can tell the story of the recovering housing industry and how it affects the Las Vegas economy and the region’s residents.

Chief responsibilities:

  • Produce breaking news copy, features and enterprise content to appear in print and online. Shoot photos and video. Actively participate in social media efforts.
  • Prepare content to the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and completeness, and “clean” enough to post online without editing.
  • Build personal contacts with officials and other sources on your beat.
  • Work closely with the Review-Journal’s other business reporters to provide a compelling daily report.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key attributes:

  • Three-plus years reporting experience.
  • Experience covering publicly traded companies, business issues and finance. Ability to decipher public filings and financial statements and turn them into compelling stories.
  • Experience with online publishing, social media and video skills are also valued.
  • Ability to see beyond the daily news to develop hard-hitting, compelling enterprise.
  • Ability to write with verve and make potentially dry stories come alive by finding compelling human angles and real people.

The Review-Journal is investing heavily in its newsroom. News organizations everywhere are cutting back, but we’re hiring. We’re committed to building a regional journalism powerhouse, attracting top-notch talent and helping journalists grow.

The Review-Journal is an equal-opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug test is mandatory.

Send resume and a few clips/editing samples to deputy editor Peter Johnson, pjohnson@reviewjournal.com  Please put Business reporter app in the subject line.
