LA Times seeks real estate reporter

The Los Angeles Times is seeking an experienced reporter to cover one of the world’s biggest and most interesting housing markets.

The boom-and-bust cycles of California real estate provide a wellspring of compelling stories and characters, often with vast amounts of wealth at stake. In the housing bust, few markets were hit harder. In the recovery, few markets have seen prices rebound faster, as investors and families have swarmed on a shortage of homes. Whether they buy, rent or invest, Southern Californians care about few things more than their homes.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned reporter who is adept at profiling neighborhoods, manipulating data, blogging the latest trends, investigating scam artists, and weaving narratives. This is a high-profile, Page-One beat. We’re looking for someone who can juggle daily news along with high-ambition projects that can distinguish the Times’ real estate coverage.  Experience in real estate or business reporting is preferred but not required. We’ll consider candidates with a track record of breaking big stories and analyzing complex issues on other news beats.

Please send a cover letter, resume and samples of published work to Business Editor Marla Dickerson at marla.dickerson@latimes.com.
