LA Times seeks California economy reporter

The Los Angeles Times is looking for an experienced reporter to cover the world’s fifth-largest economy, California.

The position calls for strong reporting on topics such as labor, immigrant workers, the gig economy, trade, competitiveness and automation.

A successful candidate will be able to compose a smart list of enterprise ideas and work with colleagues to conceive of creative uses of video and data. They will be equally capable of cranking out a short digital post on a state jobs report or organizing and executing a major investigative project. Skilled writing is a must.

This position is included in the Los Angeles Times Guild.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
