LA Business Journal seeks health care/biotech reporter

The Los Angeles Business Journal, the leading source of news and information for the Los Angeles business community, is seeking an enterprising and energetic reporter to cover the health care, biotechnology and bioscience industries for our print and digital properties.

The reporter is responsible for generating business-focused news and feature stories about L.A.’s health care providers and hospitals as well as the area’s emerging biotech firms. Coverage will focus on the companies and executives driving these complex and crucial categories.

The health care reporter will report to the Deputy Editor and will deliver news with context for Business Journal readers. They will provide weekly features for the print edition and daily breaking news updates for the digital platform.

Responsibilities:

Build and maintain a network of sources and relationships with key players across the region’s health care and biotech industries.

Develop a deep knowledge of the people, companies and trends around health care and biotech in greater Los Angeles.

Provide breaking news reports and impactful feature stories for print and digital platforms.

Attend local events, meetings and other relevant health care and biotech functions.

Requirements:

A minimum of two years’ experience covering business at a print or digital outlet.

Ability to deliver quality content and meet tight deadlines

Deep knowledge of the Los Angeles business market.

Experience covering health care and biotech is a plus, but not a must.

Demonstrated ability to connect on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
