KNXV-TV in Phoenix seeks business reporter

ABC15 in Phoenix, Arizona is looking for a business beat journalist to research, write, shoot and package cross-platform content about the Arizona economy.

The goal for this role is to tell stories that can help Arizonans earn more money, take advantage of new opportunities and enjoy the perks that business brings to the people our state. The beat includes real estate trends, jobs and wages, city services and public transportation, along with big business moves and innovation.

The job will focus heavy attention on data and trend-driven stories that include photo galleries, lists, interactive maps, videos and easy-to-digest scripts.

Content from this beat will be produced with the digital platform in mind, but will also show up on television in various forms.

The right candidate will be an innovative thinker who can write and present content customized to smaller cell phone screens, as well as someone who can become an experts in the necessary technology to produce digital-specific stories.

Key activities:

  • Enterprises daily stories to develop content that actively engages a cross-platform audience.
  • Gathers and verifies facts through interviews, observation, and research.
  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes stories according to format standards.
  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edits videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Assists with on-air and online production of all material.

Education & Experience/Certifications:

  • 1-3 years experience in digital journalism, with a preferred BA in Journalism
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Computer literacy required, with a preference for newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

  • Operates with considerable latitude. Independently performs assignments to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations.
  • Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of organization’s technologies and practices.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
