The Killeen Daily Herald is seeking a full-time reporter/editor responsible for covering local news and producing the weekly Copperas Cove Herald. The Cove Herald editor is responsible for the weekly newspaper’s content and also is a reporter and photographer contributing Cove stories and photos to the weekly Cove edition and to the Killeen Daily Herald.
The Cove reporter/editor plans the weekly Cove Herald and creates lists of stories and features that appear online and in the paper. Some of the elements are staples, such as regular columns and contributed work from Copperas Cove ISD. Others are stories and photos from event and meeting coverage. The Cove editor must be able to cover live events in person, to write stories and shoot photos, to assign stories to freelancers and edit their copy and to work with the designer producing the section.
The Cove editor must be available Saturdays to cover live events, and on Tuesday evenings to cover the Copperas Cove City Council meetings for both the daily and the weekly. The council coverage includes writing preview stories for the City Council meetings and writing stories for breaking news. The Cove editor keeps up with developments in the Cove school district and occasionally covers school board meetings.
The Cove editor must have his or her own transportation.
