The Kansas City Business Journal is searching for a reporter who is driven to break news across various media by building and working a beat.
Our legal and health care reporter covers two professions that help drive the area business scene. Legal coverage includes significant lawsuits and legal actions as well as the workings of area law firms as businesses.
Health care coverage includes news related to area hospitals, physician practices and health insurers; the area’s bioscience and animal health industries; and the use of technology and data to improve health care.
Duties:
Cover beat news of significance to the local business audience, online and in print. We have a digital-first mentality, requiring reporters to act quickly on breaking news and report it online and on social media. Reporters also provide more in-depth coverage in print, in the form of centerpiece packages, profiles and weekly reporter pages. Reporters are expected to generate their own stories and work with editors to plan short- and long-term coverage strategies
Skills:
Must be able to build working, trustful relationships with key figures on the beat; report and write breaking and complex news stories across a range of media; work collaboratively with colleagues in the newsroom; exhibit the highest levels of ethics, attention to detail and professionalism.
