Kansas City Star seeks a digital pagination/layout editor

Part-time digital pagination/layout editor wanted at The Star and Kansascity.com in Kansas City. Candidates should be experienced and proficient in both digital design and word editing and must be able to work late evenings any day of the week, as scheduling needs will vary. In addition to the design/layout responsibilities, some sports reporting opportunities are probable for a qualified candidate. Position will report to sports editors in Kansas City.

Qualifications:

  • Journalism student, bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience preferred
  • Digital design and word editing proficiency
  • Strong writing and reporting skills preferred
  • The ability to shoot passable photos and videos
  • Solid news judgment and excellent journalism ethics
  • Understanding of SEO and other optimization opportunities and a demonstrated ability to learn new skills in social and digital
  • A collaborative style that works comfortably across teams spread throughout the office and company.
  • Comfort in a job that will be fast-paced, data-driven, shaped constantly by feedback and experimentation and always evolving.
