Kansas City Media Collective seeks a project manager – part time

The Kansas City Media Collective is looking for someone who can help manage collaborative reporting projects between six different non-profit journalism and journalism adjacent organizations. You are someone who thrives when you are creative problem solving, and implementing sustainable systems that deliver impactful journalism. You are comfortable serving as a neutral third-party and balancing different interests.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as the central point of contact for all collaborative communications for the KCMC.
  • Help facilitate conversations among the collaborative members about reporting priorities.
  • Track story pitches and ensures the necessary people and resources are available.
  • Design workflows to encourage content distribution across the collaborative members’ platforms.
  • Schedule and manage meetings with collaborative partners.
  • Coordinate any future events (virtual or in-person), working closely with community organizations.
  • Manage administrative and budgeting duties.

  • Newsroom and journalism experience is a plus.
  • Candidates must live in Kansas City or the immediate surrounding area.

What you get:

  • This is a 1-year contract position without benefits except for optional participation in the 403(b) retirement. Consideration for an extension of the contract will occur. The ideal candidate will start immediately.
  • The contract will pay $29.00 per hour for a 25-hour-per-week position for one year.
  • Flexibility is a key feature of this job, with the opportunity for a hybrid mix of remote and in-person work along with flexible scheduling.
