• Create and update original market research for The List, a prime feature since our publication’s founding. This includes identifying and surveying area companies, entering information into our database, and publishing data in print, online and in our annual Book of Lists.
• Writing stories based on this research pointing out significant changes and emerging trends, profiling companies and executives, and presenting information in graphic form.
• Reporting and writing additional data-driven stories for online and print.
• Working with other reporters and editors on larger stories and packages.
• The drive to find new companies for surveys, to get information from reluctant companies and identify new data sources to continually improve our research results.
• An eye for precision — shooting to get every detail correct, every time.
• Intellectual curiosity — The need to understand and explain forces driving research results through the examination of our database and interviews with local sources.
• An ability to work as part of a team and enjoy shared success.
• Prior work in research and reporting, with published work examples.
• Specialized training in data reporting is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (journalism, business, mathematics, etc.)
