Jacksonville Daily Record seeks a business reporter

Here’s an anomaly: A newspaper that’s growing … and is a fun place to make a difference.

The Jacksonville Daily Record is looking for someone who has the entrepreneurial spirit and drive to report and write stories that make people take notice — stories that serve a purpose for our sophisticated, influential readers.

Specifically, we’re seeking a smart, ambitious business writer to cover Greater Jacksonville and Northeast Florida’s dynamic residential real estate and health care industries … someone who thrives on beating the competition on breaking news, while also being able to engage our readers with intelligent, insightful story-telling.

To write for our readers, you need to think like them, and you need to know what they care about most. In fact, our in-house motto is this: “What the boss needs to know.” This means a superstar applicant will have experience in business journalism and love the subject matter and embrace entrepreneurial capitalism.

What’s in it for you? Opportunity. The opportunity to make a difference in Greater Jacksonville; to work with top-flight editors and writers; to grow professionally and personally and advance your career; and to be rewarded when you excel. We believe in the idea of a meritocracy. And as we often say: “We hire you for your brains … use them.”

If you think you would have fun and find rewarding becoming a leading voice in two of the most important industries in Greater Jacksonville; and if you think you have the right stuff and enthusiasm, then show us.

Before applying, do your homework. Visit www.jaxdailyrecord.com to learn more about who we are and what we do. If you feel you can write the same kinds of stories with clarity, wit and expertise, prove it in an email that inspires me to schedule a talk.  Accompanying it should be a resume and three to five clips of your best work.
