Jacksonville Business Journal seeks real estate reporter

The Jacksonville Business Journal is looking to hire a real estate reporter.

What you’ll do: Jacksonville’s real estate market is bustling. Downtown development is being focused on like never before, new retailers are eyeing the area and homebuilding is approaching pre-crash activity. You’ll chronicle those stories, connecting with the area’s key players, digging into documents and — above all — breaking news.

What we want: We’re looking for someone who can source well and quickly, who can turn numbers into narratives, who can break a story and then turn around and explain what it means. An interest in both commercial and residential real estate is a must; the job may include coverage of retail and restaurants, so enjoyment of those topics is a plus. You should have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. It’d be a huge plus if you have experience covering real estate, but a good track record on other beats plus an interest in the topic could go far.

Who are we: The Jacksonville Business Journal used to be a weekly. Now we’re a daily — “hourly” is probably more accurate — publication dedicated to breaking news online and going in-depth in print. As part of the American Cities Business Journals, we and our 39 sister papers make up the No. 1 source of local business news in the country.

What comes next: If this is the job you’re dreaming of, email JBJ Editor Timothy Gibbons at tgibbons@bizjournals.com. Include your resume, include your clips, include whatever else you think will demonstrate you have what it takes to help us produce the best local business report in Florida. We’re looking to move fast on this, so don’t dawdle.
