The Corridor Business Journal is looking for a highly-organized self starter to cover business news in Johnson County, Iowa, and to fill the role of assistant editor.
The qualified applicant will balance daily and enterprise stories for our daily email updates, weekly print newspaper and our web site. The reporter will have excellent news judgment and be expected to regularly find scoops and watchdog sources and issues.
The assistant editor will be expected to learn the duties of the editor, work semiautonimously, step in when necessary and be trusted to make executive decisions. Strong office communication skills a must.
Skills/requirements:
At the CBJ, our newsroom employee handbook is the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics. Dedication at all times to ethics and fairness is a must. We expect our reporters to be passionate journalists who care about the community and write compelling, relevant stories. Knowledge of Johnson County is preferred. Business reporting experience is desired, although not mandatory. For those without business reporting experience, a background in local government reporting is a plus.
At least five years journalism/news reporting experience required. Be an AP style expert and have basic knowledge of HTML and WordPress.
