Inverse is looking for writers

April 6, 2022

Inverse is looking for pitches on the topics of science, health, space, innovation, movies, TV and video games. I am looking for narrative features, exciting profiles, oral histories, and more. Don’t email me to ask if you can pitch. Just pitch! It’s fine if you’re outside the U.S.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Inverse seeks to explore the science of anything, innovations that shape tomorrow, and ideas that stretch our minds. It covers topics such as technology, science, and culture for a millennial audience.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • I somehow convinced Roxanne Gay to be the guest editor of the 2021 Superhero Issue
  • I worked with Ralph Jones on four exhaustive movie oral histories, including this incredible deep dive into Mars Attacks
  • I noticed people reading old articles on Inverse about Delta-8 and asked Emma Betuel to take a closer look at the cannabis subculture  (this was one of the most-read features we published in 2021)
  • I launched a deeply nerdy new column with the incredible Richa Rd Newby
  • I asked Eric Francisco to take a month off from blogging to focus on writing a big Shang-Chi feature. He came back with this three-part masterpiece
  • To end the year, I got one of my favorite genre directors Adam Egypt Mortimer to say some incredibly intelligent words about Matrix Resurrections

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

COMPENSATION

  • ~$1,000 – We are happy to pay $1000 for a great story. Feature word count should be ~2,000 words, but there are exceptions.
