Inquisitr is looking for a sports writer

Inquisitr is looking for a passionate Sports freelance writer who eats, sleeps, breathes the world of competitive sports. Do you love spending hours watching professional and/or college-level sporting events? Do you constantly follow professional athletes? Ultimately, you’ll create engaging articles on all things Sports to captivate readers.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Inquisitr is a news and media website, formed in 2007 and relaunched in May 2011. It describes itself as a “multi-news aggregator”. Its contributors post trending news and original articles.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We expect you to be an expert in your content, making words come alive with stellar writing skills, perfect proofreading practice, and the professional ability to turn a story into a major trending article. Note, we are especially interested in MLB and NFL-focused writers

t is essential that you are adaptable and a team player. We are a remote company with a huge focus on innovation, growth, and collaboration. And if we haven’t said it enough, an ideal candidate is a die-hard celebrity lifestyle fan plus an amazing writer!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Crafting relevant, engaging and quality articles on all things Sports.
  • Creating fresh content, putting your own unique spin on articles, zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism.
  • Reliably sourcing and linking, fluent research skills, solid overall knowledge of the topic you’re covering.
  • Adhering to an AP style guide.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Comfortable giving opinions, asking questions and suggesting solutions
  • Enjoy working on a team and listening to different opinions

REQUIREMENTS:

  • An experienced writer and Sports enthusiast. You love all things Sports, and follow the world of competitive athletics.
  • 1-5 years writing experience in the journalism field is a must. Sports Writer: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Must speak English at an idiomatic level and be able to write U.S. English for American audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution preferred.
  • Must have the ability to create exciting and engaging headlines that entice readers to click
  • Have a keen eye for great images, which our custom CMS permits you to use.
  • Must be familiar with cropping images.
  • Words make you come alive. We aren’t looking for someone who can “kind of write.” We’re looking for smashing writers with the ability to turn a story into a major trending article. Note, we do not hire writers with zero experience

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN SUBMISSION

  • Write a short introduction about yourself
  • Include a paragraph highlighting your writing experience, relevant credentials and publication credits
  • Attach links to your strongest work or portfolio, and online profile.

  • Who is your favorite professional athlete to write about and why?
  • List a couple of your favorite celebrities and why.

COMPENSATION

  • $15 – $45 an hour
