Information Today newsmagazine is looking for a library professional to write the EDI Perspectives column starting in November 2022. It centers on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI/DEI) in the information field, primarily taking the form of interviews with info pros in the EDI space—but a new columnist is welcome to put their own spin on it.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Information Today, Inc. (ITI) is the publisher of Information Today, as well as other periodicals, books, directories, and online products; and is the organizer of Computers in Libraries, Streaming Media, Enterprise Search Summit, and other prestigious conferences and exhibitions for the library, information and knowledge management communities. Our goal is to provide users and producers of information, knowledge and content management products and services with the information they need to do their jobs as effectively as possible.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT THE ROLE
See here for an example of previous columns.
The magazine publishes 9 issues per year (9 columns required per year). Each column should be about 800 words, with flexibility as needed. Payments will be issued to the columnist by mail. Columnists are responsible for choosing the theme of each column and submitting it by the deadline provided by the editor.
Each article is about 800 words. The first column would be due in November 2022. The writing style is pretty casual. We don’t use footnotes or too-technical language (but we do have writers cite their sources in-text). We cater to all types of libraries and share broadly applicable advice, although the majority of our readers come from public and academic libraries. I’d like any potential columnists to write a trial article so both of us can see if we work well together and are a good fit. No deadline, although I’d like to get a columnist lined up by September.
