Industry Dive seeks an editor for Construction Dive

The Construction Dive Editor will regularly edit and write stories that lead our coverage of the commercial construction industry, from breaking news briefs to in-depth original stories that analyze the trends impacting commercial contractors and related companies.

You will assign and edit stories (daily, weekly and long range), plan big projects, monitor your beat, cultivate relationships with stakeholders, hunt down important stories, collaborate with your team and moderate industry panels. This position reports to the managing editor.

What you can bring to the table:

    • Proven writing, reporting and editing skills, especially for complex topics.
    • Ability to report and edit stories on tight deadlines.
    • Ability to interpret and analyze business concepts, industry trends and major news.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with important sources.
    • Strong digital news knowledge.
    • Deadline-oriented time-management skills.
    • Bachelor’s degree or better in journalism, English or similar field.
    • At least 5 years’ experience writing, reporting and editing.
    • Construction industry experience preferred.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
