Industry Dive seeks an associate editor

We’re Industry Dive, a fast-growing business journalism company based out of Washington, DC. We’re looking for sharp, talented journalists who are working to further their abilities in business journalism and digital news.

Currently, we are hiring for an associate editor to help edit, report, write and produce content for CIO Dive and our soon-to-launch publication on cybersecurity. You will learn a complex beat, pitch ideas, report and write stories, copy edit content, send email newsletters, manage social media, and develop long-term projects.

You will get a chance to help grow a digital product, work closely with your team to cover an important sector, and use all your journalism tools, from copy editing to reporting breaking news. You’ll workshop story ideas with a team, develop sources for the publication, and work a fast-growing, innovative newsroom that gives you the freedom to showcase your creativity. This position reports to the managing editor.

What you can bring to the table:

  • Proven reporting, writing and editing skills.
  • Journalism experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to develop and learn a complex beat.
  • Aptitude for interpreting and analyzing business stories and financial concepts.
  • A clear interest in business journalism.
  • Ability to produce content that resonates with a niche audience.
  • Ability to drive reader value via social media.
  • Digital news knowledge.
  • Deadline-oriented time-management skills.
  • Coverage of technology is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or similar field.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
