The Journal and Courier in Lafayette, Ind., is seeking a business reporter.

Business lies at the center of community and individual prosperity, and covering it means much more than merely chronicling the latest store opening, merger or corporate promotion.

Points of focus include:

  • Becoming the go-to reporter who understands the key business segments of the community – what drives growth and opportunity – and who breaks exclusive news.
  • Helping young professionals navigate the workplace.  How do new professionals chart a career course past all the hidden icebergs?
  • Monitoring the health of the unique local economic climate. What is the secret sauce that keeps this community’s economy humming–and how can local leaders keep enriching it into the future?
  • Providing insight and analysis about the impact of Purdue University and the Purdue Research Park on the local economy and residents. How do they impact non-employees, local government and other businesses? (May overlap and partner with Quality of Life and Government reporter.)
  • Emphasizing mobile and social platforms—the principal vectors by which Millennials access news and information

Requirements:

  •       Bachelor’s Degree.
  •       Minimum of one year of reporting experience.
