In the Capital seeks tech writer in Boston

Are you obsessed with the Tech and Startup Scene in Boston? Do you want to help foster the growth of the startup community in your city? Do you love the rush of being the first to publish a hot scoop about the latest funding?

As a Business Writer, you will maintain and build community by creating content about critical information in your beat that will educate your audience, start conversations, create controversy, spread innovative ideas and foster positive change in your community. Business Writers are competitive, creative, knowledge-hungry writers, who are passionate about spreading news and ideas within the beats they cover.

You are…

  • A newshound – You have a nose for the best story.  You know what people are talking about and which angles will draw in the most readers.  You have connections and leads that others don’t and you get scoops first.

  • A team player – You enjoy working with a team to accomplish something you could never do as an individual. You have learned through experience on teams in the past what it means to depend on others and, even more importantly, to have others depend on you.

  • Fun – People enjoy being around you because you exude positive energy that makes employees excited about their jobs, clients excited about what they are buying, and community members excited about the publication.

  • Metrics-motivated – You are driven to hit the goals that are set for you and do everything in your power to surpass them. You see benchmarks as a challenge, not just part of the job. You are smart and eager to learn and improve;  you are able to look at variables to determine what you can do better next time and what is worth repeating.

  • Entrepreneurial and forward-thinking – You see New Media as an exciting new frontier, the next big thing in the media industry. Not only do you see the trends, you want to be at the center of the revolution.   You don’t just want to watch the way the internet changes how consumers get their news and how journalism evolves to embrace the internet – you want to be a driving force in that change.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide our readers with all the information they need to to be well-informed and participate in your beat’s community

  • Produce breaking news and scheduled series content daily to meet content and traffic goals within an assigned beat

  • Develop a community of channels, contributors and commenters for your beat

  • Work with your team to create content series, character maps and events to engage with and inform your community

  • Attend events weekly and represent the publication in your community

  • Execute and uphold the Streetwise values and expectations

To apply, please email your resume and clips/writing samples to streetwisemedia@applications.recruiterbox.com with “In The Capital Tech and Business Writer” in the subject line.
