The Pantagraph, an award-winning newspaper in Bloomington-Normal, Ill., is seeking an energetic self-starter to cover the business beat for the newspaper and pantagraph.com. Bloomington-Normal is a growing, diverse economy, home to a Fortune 500 insurance company, an automotive manufacturer and an abundance of small businesses.
Qualifications
Applicants should have 1-2 years’ of newsroom experience. Business writing experience a plus, but not essential. Ideal candidate will have strong storytelling skills and be able to sift through jargon to make business issues interesting and relevant to readers. Must also be able to develop sources, juggle daily and long-term assignments, generate coverage quickly for the website and look beyond the meeting or press release toward enterprise stories.
Candidate must be willing to work a Tuesday through Saturday shift, with Saturdays as a general assignment reporter. Applicants should include a resume, cover letter and 4-6 writing samples.
