Illinois paper seeks a business reporter

The Herald & Review and herald-review.com is looking for a versatile business reporter to own coverage of the economy and jobs in Central Illinois.

This position is ideal for a journalist who can turn earnings reports and trade terms into engaging, people-focused content that moves the bar. Areas of focus will include agriculture, real estate, health care, workforce development and manufacturing.

Our newsroom values enterprising journalism that surprises, has impact and connects with readers, as well as breaking news that drives the day’s conversation in our community.

Experience in social media, video and analytics are highly preferred.

The Herald & Review is in Decatur, Illinois, about halfway between Chicago and St. Louis, and we offer a beautiful lake, active downtown and plenty of recreational opportunities.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
