ICIS seeks a petrochemicals reporter in Houston

ICIS is looking for a reporter to join our editorial team in the Americas, covering news and developments in petrochemical markets, as well as energy and fertilizers.

You will be required to cover a wide range of topics and issues that impact the markets, producing real-time news, in-depth analysis, forward-looking outlooks and other editorial content such as market commentary and contributions to price assessments. You will break exclusive news, as well as investigate and explain what this means for our customers.

You will also assist with the Houston news desk with managing content, copy-editing and other production responsibilities.

The role will allow you to become a recognised expert as well as contribute to the profile of ICIS by attending and speaking at industry events and engaging with key contacts.

You will collaborate closely with other business functions, as well as contribute ideas and carry out work on new coverage areas, methodology issues and new product opportunities with the aim of expanding the ICIS business and meeting customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

-Write concise and engaging copy – including real-time news and in-depth stories – to meet deadlines, with the highest level of accuracy, balance and analysis

-Develop story ideas and proactively chase stories

-Conduct interviews, with emphasis on phone calls and face-to-face meetings

-Travel to industry events in the US and abroad

-Work with the news, pricing, copy-editing and production teams to ensure stories are published quickly and to a high standard

-Work across ICIS multi-media platforms online and with video and audio

Key Skills Required:

-High ethics and standards

-A strong eye for a story

-A good communicator, able to write compelling copy to strict deadlines

-Strong analytical and numerical skills

-Able to explain complex financial concepts in a simple and engaging way

-Ability to work in a team and be highly adaptable to a fast-paced and continuously developing environment

Experience:
-Direct experience in news journalism, or a degree in journalism or similar.

-Experience covering commodities markets would be an advantage

-Knowledge of the petrochemical industry and/or financial markets is desirable but not required.

-Ability to speak a foreign language, particularly Spanish and/or Portuguese, would be beneficial but not necessary
