IBISWorld seeks a senior editor

IBISWorld is a leader in market intelligence and our team provides detailed analyses of thousands of industries across the globe. We are looking for a creative and attentive Senior Editor to join our team and help elevate our content to the next level, forging a stronger connection between our research and its audience.

As a key member of our department, your role would be to ensure the consistency of our content and identify areas for improvement in both our products and how they are created. In this role, you will maintain the core department duties of conducting reviews, ensuring consistency of content and copy editing while also working to identify areas for improvement in products and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proofread and process a high volume of market intelligence reports according to set guidelines using proprietary content-management and workflow programs
  • Address and resolve writing, logic, grammar and style issues in reports in a timely manner
  • Query analysts regarding errors in report or issues with writing
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of analysts’ reports, making detailed edits and suggestions
  • Work with the Research department and individual analysts to improve and refine their writing styles and techniques
  • Identify need for and lead writing/editorial workshops
  • Meet with individual analysts who require additional help to improve writing
  • Work with other editors to refine styles, systems, guidelines and more; help update department manuals and guides as needed
  • Identify areas of improvement in quality review processes and overall content creation
  • Assist with screening and hiring new editors
  • Train new analysts on editorial expectations and report writing guidelines
  • Support Research Team Leads and Analysts as needed or directed by manager
  • Other duties and projects as assigned, including but not limited to:
  • Complete more complex media or marketing projects (writing, editing or design)
  • Mentor and help train new editors

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or Communications
  • 3+ years of business writing experience
  • Beginning to intermediate knowledge of economic concepts
  • In-depth knowledge of standard English spelling and grammar
  • Adept attention to detail
  • Strong editorial judgement
  • Ability to help connect the content with the audience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Grammarly or other copy-editing tools/programs
  • Comfortable identifying and troubleshooting technical problems
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize various responsibilities and deadlines
  • Flexibility to effectively deal with unexpected assignments and changes to workload based on management priorities or client requests
  • Works well with others, but also self-motivating and autonomous
