Huffpost seeks a Senior Editor, Overnight Front Page

HuffPost is looking for an experienced, skilled editor to help manage its overnight coverage — editing and publishing stories, following the news, writing headlines, and updating our widely read mobile app and front page.

The position can be performed remotely and reports to the Front Page Managing Editor.

Typical hours are Sun-Thu 10pm-7am ET.

You Will:

  • Identify stories HuffPost’s reporters should cover, and contribute ideas for how to cover them
  • Edit stories filed to the copy desk for accuracy, clarity and style
  • Determine what’s most interesting and important about a story and capture the story’s essence in a headline and push notification
  • Conceive and select the most compelling images to accompany stories on the front page
  • Identify stories that need to be on the front page and coordinate with reporters

You Have:

  • Solid news judgment; know when a story matters, when it doesn’t — and why
  • A passion for all types of news and an instinct to keep up to date on all the latest developments
  • Experience editing in a breaking news environment that requires meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective collaboration skills and are able to partner across teams, including outside the U.S.
  • A sense for how to make news compelling using images, headlines, and other publishing elements
  • Knowledge of the content and headlines typically featured on HuffPost’s front page
  • 5+ years experience in online journalism, including multiple years at a national outlet

This position is in the WGA-E bargaining unit.

Salary: 84,141-100,000 USD
