Hearst Television seeks an anchor reporter

WCVB is looking for an Anchor/Reporter who excels at storytelling and brings the energy of live-in-the-field reporting to our anchor desk. We are seeking a versatile self-starter who is fast, efficient, and works well under tight deadlines. Top candidates will have credibility, poise, and personality as well as the ability to develop key sources and break big stories. Our anchors lead by example pitching story ideas, mentoring producers and reporters, and taking an active role in writing and editing scripts that really speak to the viewer

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver scripted content and breaking news with professionalism, personality, and purpose
  • Work with and guide reporters and producers in newscast production
  • Collaborate with assignment editors to plan, gather, and edit stories on day-of news or special project assignments
  • Develop meaningful sources both locally and nationally
  • Work with photographers to turn a good story idea into a highly produced piece, loaded with compelling video and sound
  • Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
  • Contribute photos, video, and copy to digital platforms throughout the day
  • Demonstrate exceptional time-management skills by meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure
  • Display unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
  • Appear on behalf of the station at public events

Experience Requirements:

  • Past anchor experience (2-5 years)
  • Past reporting experience (2-5 years)
  • Ability to get on the air quickly from the field, building multiple versions of developing stories
  • Demo reel that is indicative of everyday work

Qualifications:

  • Ability to get on the air quickly from the field, building multiple versions of developing stories
  • Proven ability to connect with viewers and commitment to community
  • Willing to work in all weather conditions
  • A valid driver’s license and clear driving record
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience
