MySA is seeking a Trending Food Reporter with sharp reporting skills and familiarity working for a digital-first newsroom. The ideal candidate will enjoy having a collaborative working relationship with the rest of the team to ideate and execute stories for the Food & Drink vertical. The food writer will chase and write stories that highlight San Antonio’s diverse, vibrant food scene and dig up unique angles that haven’t been explored yet. Knowledge of the San Antonio and/or Texas food landscape a big plus, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write news, service-minded pieces and features about San Antonio’s food and drink scene
- Pitch and develop stories and projects to editors
- Keep track of San Antonio food news and determine which stories are a fit for MySA
- Occasionally make photo requests from restaurants, bars and other food businesses
- Develop an editorial calendar
- Track performance metrics using Chartbeat and Looker to determine which stories work for MySA’s audience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent news judgement and feature writing skills
- Excellent reporting, researching, and interviewing skills
- Strong copy-editing skills and knowledge of AP Style
- Familiarity with the needs of the San Antonio and Texas audience
- Familiarity with national digital media landscape
- Familiarity with content management systems
- Either experience or a strong interest in food and drink
