Hawaii Business seeks research and project editor

Hawaii BusinessHawaii Business (, the state’s expert on issues affecting businesses in Hawaii, is seeking an experienced Research and Project Editor. This is a full-time regular position reporting to the Editor of Hawaii Business.

The essential job duties include but are not limited to the following:
Planning and managing Hawaii Business’ signature data research and analysis projects, including Best Places to Work, Top 250, Most Profitable Companies, Top 100 Realtors, Hawaii’s Most Charitable Companies, and Black Book, to ensure the information presented is accurate and compiled in accordance with the established production deadlines. May require phone calls to companies participating in the research to solicit or verify data.
Upon completion of training, this position will serve as the editorial department’s subject matter expert and administrator for the Data Joe system including compiling reports and training other users
Edit, write headlines and send the magazine’s daily email newsletter, Today’s Hawaii News
Ensure freelance purchase orders are issued accurately, on a timely basis and manage freelance expenses within the established budgets
Writing shorter pieces and the occasional longer piece in print and digital forms
Serve as the chief proofreader for the magazine to ensure content and typographical accuracy
Collaborate with the Editor to edit stories
Solicit articles from local experts to fill two monthly one-page features, Ask the Expert and 5 Steps.
Work with regular freelance writers to brainstorm ideas for monthly columns such as My Job, Local-Kine Biz and Nonprofit Corner.
Provide support at Hawaii Business events
Other duties as required by business and marketing conditions

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English, or equivalent professional work experience
Minimum 2 years of professional editorial work experience (magazine experience preferred)
Minimum 2 years of professional work experience in managing editorial research projects including managing database lists
Minimum 2 years of professional work experience with Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
