This is a highly-coveted position within our news department, which is growing. While many newspapers have shrunk considerably over the past year, HBJ will actually come out of the pandemic with more reporters.
We also aren’t corporately-owned. We are a small privately-held company with owners who are investing and growing our brand.
The staff writer should be an enterprising journalist who can develop sources and their own story ideas. The main job duties include writing stories for print and online and covering beats that are at the very core of every business journal.
Commercial real estate is by far our most popular coverage area — consistently leading our top-read stories. We are looking for a reporter who knows their way around public records and is good at developing sources. You’ll be talking to brokers, developers, economic development officials and other top business leaders to get the scoop on the latest new developments, moves and property purchases and also dive deeply into the trends impacting Greater Hartford’s commercial real estate market.
We don’t want to just cover the news. We want to be breaking stories, outpacing the competition and leading the conversation.
We are offering a competitive salary, full health benefits and 401(k). We are looking for candidates with a minimum 3 to 5 years of experience. Business journalism experience is a plus.
Please send resume, cover letter and 3 writing samples to jcoran@nebusinessmedia.com and gbordonaro@hartfordbusiness.com.
