Gray Television seeks a producer & reporter for Gray National Show & weekend anchor/reporter (WVUE)

Gray Television is launching a new national daily news magazine and we’re looking for talented journalists, specifically a producer and reporter, to join our team.

Both positions are remote.

This will NOT be a newscast. No breaking news. No weather. You will focus on journalism and showcasing long-form storytelling. We see the show as a journey across America through the lens of in-depth storytelling focusing on holding the powerful accountable, informing consumers and profiling the American experience.

Producer – Gray National Show (REMOTE)

The Line Producer will be responsible for producing the daily news show under the supervision of the Managing Editor and Executive Producer.

The Line Producer will work with the Executive Producer to ensure the editorial and visual standards of the broadcast are met.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Executive Producer, Coordinating Producer, Associate Producers and Editors in the stacking, writing and producing of the daily show
  • Oversee all details of the broadcast while working closely with all members of the team
  • Copy-edit reporter scripts as well as all show copy
  • Contribute story ideas and work closely with reporters to execute those ideas
  • Work cooperatively as a team member under deadline.
  • Digital/Social/CTV duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by Managing Editor and Executive Producer

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of experience as a news producer
  • Strong editorial judgement
  • Motivated, self-starter who is detail oriented
  • The ability to interact professionally and effectively with Gray management at the station and corporate level
  • Proficiency in Windows-based electronics and the ability to learn ENPS as well as new systems as they are implemented
  • Proficiency in BitCentral as well as new systems as they are implemented.
  • Understanding of digital CMS production and the ability to learn Arc as well as new systems as they are implemented.
  • BS/BA in Journalism/Communications or equivalent background
  • Flexibility with travel and work schedules
  • Remote work a possibility
  • Must be 18 years or Older

Reporter – Gray National Show (REMOTE)

Reporter will be responsible for telling informative and impactful stories for the Daily show.

The Reporter will work with a photographer on short- and long-term projects.

The Reporter will concept, pitch and develop stories in concert with the Managing Editor and Executive Producer.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Pitch relevant and interesting stories designed to appeal to a national audience
  • Work with Managing Editor and EP to take story from pitch to development to execution
  • Work with Photographer in collaboration on stories
  • Work with producer and associate producer during story planning and research
  • Work cross functionally and cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines
  • Balance short- and long-term story assignments
  • Work with the EP and Managing Editor to ensure stories maintain editorial and visual standards of the show
  • Maintain standards of style, agreement with editorial policy, errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Work with Managing Editor and Executive Producer in meeting regular production schedule deadlines
  • Digital/Social/CTV duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7 years of experience in Broadcast News
  • Creative writer and strong storyteller
  • Able to work independently and use solid judgement on all stories, images and sound that is used within a news story
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Motivated, self-starter who is detail oriented
  • The ability to interact professionally and effectively with Gray management at the station and corporate level
  • Proficiency in Windows-based electronics and the ability to learn ENPS as well as new systems as they are implemented
  • Proficiency in BitCentral as well as new systems as they are implemented.
