Gizmodo seeks editor in chief

Gizmodo Media Group, which is part of Univision’s digital arm, Fusion Media Group, is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to serve as Editor-in-Chief of its flagship website, Gizmodo.com, which reaches some 35 million monthly readers globally.

The ideal candidate will be obsessive about technology, science, and geek culture, and have experience assigning coverage and developing editorial strategy across these subject areas. This role requires a leader who can manage, mentor, and motivate a large, growing (~30) team; is adept in a fast-paced, digital news environment, and has big ideas about what an authoritative, conversation-starting technology publication should cover in 2017 and beyond.

We need someone who is growth oriented, and can strike the right balance between deepening audience engagement and quality reporting. The ideal candidate will also have experience in, and enthusiasm for, growing the Gizmodo brand in ways that extend far beyond written stories–think video, podcasting, events and newsletters.

Duties Include

  • Devise an editorial vision and execute an operational strategy that balances audience growth and brand extensions, with out diminishing the integrity of Gizmodo journalism.
  • Work closely with GMG’s executive editorial leadership team to coordinate day-to-day and longer lead-time coverage, including tentpole event coverage, investigative work, narrative features, and multimedia packages.
  • Work very closely with GMG video, podcasting, and events teams to develop and manage new projects and opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor a growing team of talented reporters, ranging from entry-level staff writers to experienced senior writers.
  • Have a strong commitment, and proven track record, of hiring diverse talent.
  • Work collaboratively with GMG’s ~10 sister sites for relevant, shared storytelling and deeper audience engagement.
  • Work with GMG’s executive editorial leadership to manage budget and logistics for Gizmodo
