FundFire seeks reporter to cover pensions

FundFire, a part of the Financial Times, and the leading publication covering the high-net-worth and institutional investment management industry, is seeking a talented, motivated journalist to cover our pensions beat.

This opening provides an exciting opportunity to cover some of the most influential investors in the country at a tumultuous time. These organizations control trillions of dollars but often find themselves struggling to make ends meet. A combination of factors like low interest rates, rising liabilities and poor investment choices have left many pensions without enough money to cover what they owe. As a result, they are scrambling to find a way out of their precarious situation before it’s too late. On this beat, there is ample opportunity to break hard news and write in-depth, analytical pieces that help our readers better understand the inner workings of the institutional investment market.

Prior experience covering finance is not required for this job.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established, stable, profitable, respected publication and help expand its reach into new markets.

FundFire’s 100,000-strong readership runs the gamut of the U.S. institutional/high-net-worth investment management industry, including the investment managers that manage and market institutional investment products, the investment offices of wealth managers, investment consultants, defined benefit pension funds, university endowments, nonprofits and foundations, as well as financial advisors.

The reporter will be based in the New York offices of Money-Media, a unit of the Financial Times, which owns and operates FundFire.

Duties

Reporting duties: The reporter will be expected to produce three or more stories per week for our daily newsletter. The reporter will be expected to mine public documents and develop a network of sources in the institutional investment industry to generate scoops, story ideas and insights to share with readers. We prize actionable, insightful and concise content. The reporter will use analytical, quantitative and/or documentary material, as well as interviews, to explore all aspects of the story.

The reporter will be expected to contribute to all formats of FundFire editorial, including video interviews and features, webcasts and whatever else comes up. There are occasional opportunities to have work republished in the FT and travel to conferences.

Every reporter and editor at FundFire is held to fundamental standards of integrity, honesty and journalistic ethics.

Qualifications/Attributes

  • In-depth experience in beat reporting and in writing longer analytical articles
  • Experience with content in multiple formats (e.g. photo, video, charts & graphs, etc.) and reworking stories from concept to publication
  • Excellent editorial judgment
  • Attention to detail

Ability to work in a team environment and productively collaborate with other journalists

Please email your resume and a cover letter explaining why you’d be a good fit for the position to hr@money-media.com, referencing Reporter, FundFire in the subject line.
