As U.S. Economy Bureau Chief, you’ll manage a team of reporters covering the U.S. economy and Federal Reserve at a pivotal time. Unemployment, spending and inflation data all tell us that the economy is in good shape. The people living in it say otherwise. There are countless stories to be told in this gulf between data and sentiment, stories that will help our audience cast their votes in the coming presidential election.
We’re looking for an editor who’s fluent in Fed-speak and economic data. Equally important is the ability to help reporters unearth and develop the people-driven stories that illuminate it. Your job is to deliver must-read stories about how people, businesses and governments are experiencing the economy’s ups and downs – and about the policymakers and central bankers keeping it in check.
Familiarity with financial markets, the economy’s circulatory system, is essential, as is a strong grasp on the political dynamics that influence Americans’ attitudes about the country’s financial health.
The ideal candidate is comfortable handling scoops, managing breaking news, editing ambitious features and coaching reporters to produce their best work.
