The Wall Street Journal seeks a scoopy, ambitious reporter to cover the Wall Street-Silicon Valley money machine.

We’re looking for someone with a strong track record of scoops on big tech startups and their financial backers, the gargantuan sums amassed and spent on AI – and how all this money is changing the texture of American business. The ideal candidate has a full rolodex of technology sources in the financial-services industry and Wall Street more broadly that can help suss out the companies that are ascendant and struggling.

The successful candidate loves sniffing out the latest twist in the trajectories of buzzy technology companies. The person is comfortable writing about generative AI, cloud computing, chips, software, autonomous vehicles and beyond. This person also has extensive experience mining balance sheets for stories and unearthing financial irregularities.

The ideal candidate is competitive and loves chasing hot tips. A collaborative spirit is also a must, as is the ability to turn a stream of scoopy stories into distinctive features.

You will:

  • Break agenda-setting news on your beat.
  • Conceptualize and deliver deeply reported enterprise stories.
  • Work with colleagues around the country and the world in a 24-hour-a-day global newsroom.

You have:

  • At least seven years of reporting experience dominating a highly competitive beat, ideally in tech and finance, and a track record of producing scoops and robust journalism.
  • Deadline skills to report and write clearly under pressure.
  • Proven ability to develop sources and write with authority on what is happening and what it means.
  • A track record of tackling ambitious projects, finding original approaches to coverage and working with visuals to find creative storytelling techniques.
  • A deep understanding of Silicon Valley and how technology companies work.

To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter detailing how you would do the job, and five examples of your best work.
