The Wall Street Journal is looking for an editor who can evaluate, prioritize, assemble and edit a robust mix of stories, graphics and photos for the news sections of the daily print edition.

This Senior Publishing Editor will work closely with other editors, as well as Art Directors and the Print Editor, to create and update a cohesive section with compelling page layouts. The position includes editing and fitting stories and writing headlines to finish daily pages on deadline.

You should have strong news judgment and the ability to work and manage teams and decisions under deadline pressure. Compliance with standards guidelines and factual accuracy are critical.

The ability to work independently as well as on a team and collaborate with reporters and editors around the world is essential. You will be flexible in changing/handing off tasks, and eager to learn new skills.

You have:

  • At least five years of editing experience, preferably including in print journalism and publishing
  • Exceptional news judgment
  • Ability to edit for grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, structure, balance and fairness, and to oversee other editors’ work
  • Ease with editing text, photo captions and graphics
  • Ability to help connect the content with the audience
  • Numeracy; confidence in analyzing the data behind a story, drawing on general knowledge

You will:

  • Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics in your work and that of others
  • Meet deadlines and prioritize tasks while handling multiple responsibilities
  • Be aware of how a newsroom works, understanding workflow as it affects others’ needs as well as your own
  • Understand WSJ’s brand, content and various digital and print platforms, and WSJ’s core audiences, their needs and expectations
