The Wall Street Journal is seeking a high-energy news editor for a role at the heart of our newsroom focused on world coverage. You will work collaboratively with our world bureaus and breaking news team to ensure we are first or fast the stories that matter most to our readers. You will be part of a tight-knit team of senior news editors charged with elevating the digital experience for our readers. You will be a fast and accurate line editor with the confidence to commission, edit, and publish – and in some instances write – the first takes of big breaking news.

You will also be the lead project manager responsible for building rich digital experiences for readers of our world coverage, working with bureau chiefs and reporters across different time zones from the conception of a story to its completion to ensure we attract and engage our readers. In this endeavor, you will work closely with colleagues in publishing, visual, audio, video, design and audience. You will also be required to oversee or helm our world live blogs.

The successful candidate will be a champion for world coverage on our digital platforms, involved in the process of picking and positioning the best stories for our daily line-ups, while also writing arresting headlines and crafting news alerts. You will be well-versed in world news and comfortable working with images, data and charts, with an open mind about the best way to tell a story. You will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

The position is based in New York.

You will:

  • Be responsible for ensuring we are first or fast on big breaking world news stories
  • Act as a lead project manager responsible for building rich digital experiences for our readers
  • Be a champion for world stories on our digital platforms

You have:

  • At least seven years’ experience in world journalism
