The Wrap seeks a business editor

TheWrap is seeking a skilled and dynamic Business Editor to lead and expand its business coverage, delivering in-depth and industry-focused reporting. This role requires a seasoned editor with a passion for the entertainment and media business, strong journalistic instincts, and a track record of editing and managing high-quality financial and business reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Business Coverage: Manage and guide TheWrap’s business journalism efforts, including investigative reporting, analysis, and feature writing tailored for an industry audience.
  • Editorial Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive coverage plans across key business beats, including TheWrap’s subscription-driven content for WrapPRO.
  • Team Collaboration: Ideate and assign stories, provide guidance to reporters, and ensure coverage aligns with TheWrap’s editorial goals by working closely with the executive editor and editor in chief.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the oversight of financial coverage, including earnings reports, mergers and acquisitions, stock market trends, and industry financial conferences.
  • Breaking News and Analysis: Supervise timely reporting of breaking financial news and earnings analyses.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all business and financial content meets TheWrap’s editorial standards for accuracy, depth and insight.
  • Audience Engagement: Deliver content that resonates with and engages TheWrap’s industry-focused readership.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of proven experience in business or financial journalism, with an emphasis on editing and leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of the media, entertainment, and financial industries.
  • Strong editing skills and the ability to craft clear, compelling stories.
  • Experience managing and mentoring reporters and fostering a collaborative newsroom environment.
  • Ability to handle quick turnaround analyses under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and depth.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, including earnings reports, M&A activity, and stock market trends.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with digital publishing tools and analytics.
  • Strong network of industry sources.
  • Previous work in a subscription-based or industry-focused publication.

  • Competitive Salary: Typical salary range for this role is $110,000 – $130,000, but may vary depending on experience.
