The Registry is a leading source for commercial real estate news and analysis on the West Coast. Our dedicated reporting team covers breaking deals, market trends, major players, and the regulatory landscape that shapes the industry. With a focus on in-depth reporting and data-driven insights, The Registry provides essential information to real estate professionals, investors, and anyone interested in the dynamic commercial property market of the Western United States.

Position Summary

We seek a dynamic and resourceful journalist to cover the complex, rapidly evolving world of commercial real estate. This role demands a keen interest in the financial and economic factors that drive this industry, a knack for uncovering compelling stories, and a sophisticated command of modern storytelling techniques, including AI-assisted writing tools.

This role is remote, and a candidate does not need to live in the markets where we cover the news.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Sources and Uncover Trends: Build a robust network of contacts within the commercial real estate sector, including developers, investors, brokers, property managers, and urban planners. Stay ahead of market trends, identify emerging players, and predict potential shifts impacting the industry.
  • Investigative Reporting: Dive deep into complex deals, regulatory changes, and the intricate relationships governing the commercial real estate ecosystem. Expose potential challenges, uncover hidden stories, and explain the real-world implications of commercial development.
  • Data-Driven Storytelling: Analyze economic data, market reports, and public records to tell stories supported by hard evidence. Utilize visualizations to make complex data accessible to our audience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Business, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in journalism, preferably with a focus on business, finance, or real estate.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and accuracy.
  • Ability to cultivate sources and build relationships within the industry.
  • Demonstrated data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and digital publishing platforms.
  • Experience with AI-assisted writing and research tools (highly preferred).

Additional Desired Skills

  • Photography and video production skills.
  • Social media fluency for audience engagement.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools.
