The Information seeks a reporter to cover tech M&A

July 11, 2024

Posted by Chris Roush

We’re seeking a reporter to lead a new beat at The Information: tech M&A. For years, The Information’s scrappy, highly sourced tech and venture reporters have broken news on many M&A deals, from Amazon’s Twitch buyout to Google’s deal for Mandiant (and several abandoned ones, too). We’re looking for a reporter to join this team and bring our deal scoops to a new level. The landscape is tumultuous. This is a great chance for a reporter to be at the center of it all.

The scope of the beat will range from fire sales of venture-backed startups to Salesforce’s next target, and could extend to buyouts and initial public offerings. If you geek out on deal terms and love analyzing (or want to learn) how a deal benefits some investors more than others, we’re the place for you. And while deal scoops are at the heart of this role, the candidate would be encouraged to go deep with profiles of the institutions making waves on this beat, a key part of The Information’s coverage.

What you’ll do

  • Regularly break news on merger talks, sales processes, leveraged buyouts, etc. in tech

  • Frequently collaborate with our team of tech and venture reporters

  • Identify the biggest stories on the beat and the most important players

  • Pitch and deliver high-impact features

Qualifications Benefits

  • 4+ years as a business beat reporter and a track record of breaking news in finance, business or tech

  • Keen interest in tech industry trends and key players

  • Proven experience of developing sources and scooping

  • Vision for how to develop this beat

  • Ability to work out of our offices in San Francisco or New York
